FAQ
Questions our potential and existing customers ask:

Who are you?

You should always ask the person that looks over your valuable equipment about their background in IT.

My name is Richard Crosland and I have worked in IT specific roles within the public and private sectors in South Wales for over 15 years.   Coupled with University level IT qualifications and working with computers and laptops on a day-to-day basis in these roles, qualifies me to say that I understand computer and technology issues.

Why choose OurPCFixer over other computer service companies?

Our level of service and our prices! We believe our prices are already the best around, but if you can find a genuinely cheaper quote elsewhere, we will beat it.  Our prices are set and we don't have call out fees or charge by the hour. If we can't fix it we don't charge.   All prices are agreed before work begins and if replacement parts or upgrades are required, then we will explain why they are needed and they will not be purchased until you are agreed on their cost.

Due to the nature of the tasks and time involved in some of our repairs, it may be necessary to take your PC or laptop away to our workshop. We can often advise over the phone if this will be required.

Do you have a shop I can take my computer to?

To be able to offer such great prices on repairs, we don't have a shop. Our mobile one-to-one service enables us to visit you in the comfort of your own home at a time convenient to you.

What are your business hours?

As we are a mobile service we aren't limited to "opening times" and will arrange times suitable for you, including weekends and evenings.

What is RAM?

RAM or Random Access Memory allows information to be temporarily held in a storage area until it is needed.   For example, when you are playing a game on your computer or laptop, the files that make up that game are held in this storage area while the games is played.   The more RAM you have, the more games, websites and music can be run at the same time.

What is a Virus?

A virus is a program that has been written to perform actions on a computer system, often without the users approval or knowledge.   These could typically include, disabling security features, recording and sending key presses to the author of the virus, or diverting you to web sites that you did not intend to visit, often for their financial gain.

You should always make sure you have Anti-Virus software installed and that it is kept up-to-date. A regular schedule of update and scanning should be carried out to stay virus free.

There are many free Anti-Virus tools available...if a store is pushing you to pay for one, then its quite possible that they are getting a commission.
